What is Spam?
Spam is the generic term for Unsolicted Commercial Email. It involves email
that tries to sell you a service or product. It is similar to Junk Postal Mail that shows up in your mailbox,
but the type of services being peddled can be much more offensive. The volume of
spam can also be quite high as compared to regular Postal Mail, as the cost of delivering spam is much lower.
Mail Deflector allows you to stop spam in its tracks by rejecting the initial contact from a previously identified
spam generator. By allowing you personal control over what machines you accept mail from, it provides an
extra level of spam prevention.

Why try to eliminate it?
Your employees may not want to receive spam regarding sex sites, Viagra, credit fixing, or a
myriad of other items. Your customers may have small children in the house, and don't want to receive such email.
You want to block spam of this sort. The list goes on. As the owner/operator of an Internet
server, you don't want to tie up your machine receiving emails to hundreds of users on your machine. This ties
up precious hard drive space, computing time, and Internet bandwidth. If you have a metered Internet connection,
the rejection of spam is even more important.
